President of Cyprus on working visit to Finland
May 22, 2025
President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides paid a working visit to Finland on Thursday 22 May 2025. The visit was hosted by President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb.
President Stubb and President Christodoulides held formal talks at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki. The presidents discussed bilateral relations between Finland and Cyprus, as well as European security, Russia’s illegal war of aggression in Ukraine, and the regional situations in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
“Finland and Cyprus have a longstanding relationship, and this visit will further strengthen it. Finland and Cyprus share a history stretching back more than 60 years. Finnish troops served in a UN peacekeeping mission in Cyprus between 1964 and 2004. We are also connected by the sea. Last winter, more than 80 ships sailing under the Cypriot flag visited Finnish ports,” President Stubb said.
During his visit, President Christodoulides will also meet with Speaker of the Finnish Parliament Jussi Halla-aho and Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen.
