Finding a Tool
Every tool is on the PDF Tools page, grouped by what it does, and most are in the PDF Tools menu at the top of every page. Each one has its own address, such as printfriendly.com/pdf-tools/merge-pdf, so you can bookmark the ones you use.
To open a file in the PDF editor straight away, drop it on the home page. What Each Tool Does lists every tool with a line on what it is for.
Do You Need an Account?
You can open a file in any tool without signing in, and reading, editing or signing it on screen is free as it is. To get the result, whether you download it, print it or copy a link to it, sign in with a free PrintFriendly account. If you don't have one, you can create it right there. The account costs nothing, and neither do the tools.
Repair PDF and Unlock PDF do not ask you to sign in at all.
PDF to Markdown asks you to sign in before it shows the converted text, not only before you download it.
File Limits
A file can be up to 100 MB, with these exceptions:
- Merge PDF: up to 20 files at a time.
- OCR PDF: up to 75 pages.
- PDF to Markdown: up to 45 MB and 100 pages.
A file over a limit can usually be brought under it. Split PDF breaks a long PDF into shorter ones, and Compress PDF makes one smaller.
What Happens to Your Files
Flatten PDF, Password Protect PDF, Edit PDF Metadata and QR Code Generator work entirely on your own device, so nothing you give them is sent to us.
With every other tool, your file is sent to us over an encrypted connection. It is deleted automatically within 48 hours, along with the file the tool made from it, whether or not you download them. Download your result if you want to keep it.
We don't look at, review or analyze what you upload, and we don't use it to train anything. Our privacy policy has the details.
Common Questions
Do the PDF tools cost anything?#
No. Every tool is free, and so is the account that downloads ask for. Paid plans are for the Print Button on your own website, which is a separate product.
My file is too large#
Check the file limits. For a PDF, Split PDF can break it into parts that fit, and Compress PDF can make it smaller.
My PDF has a password#
If you know the password, Unlock PDF gives you a copy that opens without it. Merge PDF lets you unlock a file right in its list. To add a password instead, use Password Protect PDF.
My PDF won't open#
Try Repair PDF. It recovers what it can, sometimes the whole file and sometimes only part of it, and it does not ask you to sign in.
Can I get a file back later?#
No. Your files are not saved to your account, and the ones sent to us are deleted within 48 hours, so download your result before you leave the page.
Something else? Contact support and tell us which tool you were using and roughly how big the file was.
